It’s no secret… April is a slow month for movies.
We’ve just exited the movie awards season, but it’s not quite time for the summer blockbusters to start rolling in week after week.
Finding a flick that even remotely looks appealing is a herculean task that I look forward to trying to accomplish, each and every week.
As a quick aside… was it always like this? Were the big time movies always so concentrated in certain times of the year? It didn’t feel like this when I was a kid, but also everything seemed better when I was a kid, so what do I know?
Given the lack of interest in anything playing in theaters, Balky and I, for the 3rd time in Off Topic history, decided to dig through the dredges of straight to streaming movies, with the college stoner movie “Pizza Movie”
This was a callback to the college movie classics of yore that seem to have gone the way of the dodo in recent years.
With a cast of familiar characters including the nerd, the stoner, and the girl, it doesn’t necessarily go into unchartered territory, but that doesn’t mean it can’t squeak out a laugh or two, especially in the first half.
If I were in my late teens, I have a feeling I would’ve loved this movie. I’m not though, I’m in my late 30’s. I went more gentle on this one than my cohost Balky did, but neither one of us was particularly impressed.
Listen to our (spoiler free) review of the film before or after you watch and let us know what you thought about it.
